Salzburg Photos: Dreaming Spires of Salzburg
return to "summer
photos"
The phrase of the ′dreaming spires′ was originally used for a university town in England - however, Salzburg has actually more of them than almost any other town of its size and age. The Baroque buildign boom has left the city with a large number of palaces, towers and churches. The key to Salzburg′s wealth lies in the province′s south:
Mines that were rich in salt, gold and other ores enabled the Prince Archbishops to finance the elaborate architecture that makes Salzburg now a
UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
