Residenzbrunnen (Residenz Fountain)

The Residenzbrunnen at the Residenzplatz Square. It is the biggest Baroque fountain north of the Alps (at least that is what we hear) and considered to be a masterpiece of civil engineering. Here you can see to tip of the fountain, with a little triton holding a horn that sprays water over himself. The building in the background is the Residenz itself, once the main palace of the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg. Most official functions and receptions took place in the Residenz, whereas palaces such as Hellbrunn Castle served primarily as leisure grounds. Otherwise, there is little we can say about the Residenzbrunnen in general and this photo of it in particular; at least nothing that we hadn't said elsehwere before. For details, please read our articles in the sightseeing sections.
